Many of the families that we serve are at or below the poverty level. With the economy being as poor as it has been, we need as much help as we can get to meet our goal of $7000. On Saturday, Oct. 23, also National Make A Difference Day, troops from across the county will come together to collect the food they had gathered during the month. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Girl Scout Service Center in Garden City, Girl Scouts will collect, sort, pack and donate food to Island Harvest, Long Island's Source Authority on Food Service.

These animals are living in cage at boarding facilities and shelters and need to lose extra unwanted weight. National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Long Island Chapter   740-7227   Natale Raimo   nkantonist@nmssli.org     May 1   The 2011 Zwanger-Pesiri Radiology Walk MS takes place on Sunday, May 1 at Jones Beach Park, Field 5, a fundraiser for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Long Island Chapter. Approximately a four-mile route, check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. and the walk itself begins at 10:00 a.m. The walk takes place rain or shine. Preregistration online is recommended. Turn in $125 by the day of Walk MS to receive a 2011 Zwanger-Pesiri Radiology Walk MS T-shirt. Bring donor envelope to check in at the registration tent at arrival. After registration, proceed to the starting line. Rest stops are included on the walk route, complete with water and enthusiastic volunteers.

Day-of-event registration, pre-walk breakfast and events begin at 8:30 a.m. The walk itself starts at 10 a.m. All residents -- individuals, school and other group teams -- are invited to preregister online at the local non-profit Lupus Alliance website, or stop by their Bellmore location during the week of October 11 to register in advance in person. This walk is the non-profit group's biggest event of the year, with over 2,000 people attending and over $250,000 raised every year.
